We’ve had many new CNC Machinery announcements lately–as we continue to grow our business–but this newest announcement is something that we’ve been looking forward to for months now. If you’ve been keeping up with our latest blog posts, then you’ve had some foresight into this new addition. The KIWA Methods-KMH-1000B is one of the largest horizontal machines in our shop, to date!

The KIWA Methods-KMH-1000B weighs over 35 tons, so for the past month and a half, we’ve been strategically planning its placement and supportive pad underneath.  Just receiving in this machine proved to be a significant project for us.  In the beginning of October, after clearing a large enough space for this machine’s large footprint, dedicated PEKO employees began cutting away at the concrete floor in our CNC Facility.  Once enough of the original floor–and earth–was dug away, a rebar grid was laid down, cones were put into place and then the new concrete pad was poured.

Stabilizing a 35-ton machine is no easy task, so once the concrete was 50% cured, the cones–which were placed to support the machine’s weight into place–were tapped out of the concrete.  These cones were put into place to eventually hold the anchors that will keep the machine stable while it rips through large amounts of raw material.  Since we have dozens of large CNC machines in our shop floor that run at the same time, ensuring that each machine has its own stable foundation is a necessity for creating our high-precision parts that are used in the major mechanical assemblies for our premier Original Equipment Manufacturer customers.

Delivery And Assembly

With over 50 years of experience as a Contract Manufacturer and having specialized in building machines and major mechanical assemblies, our dedicated and seasoned staff took on the challenge of assembling this brand-new machine.  The KIWA Methods-KMH-1000B was delivered to PEKO in three large crates once the cement was completely cured and took about three weeks of non-stop effort from our highly trained staff to completely assemble once the feet of the machine were lined up to their proper position so they could be bolted into the pad.  

New Capabilities

With such a grand machine comes even grander capabilities.  This machine is a four-axis machine with an impressive travel capacity:

  • X Axis: 82.7 in.
  • Y Axis: 48.6 in.
  • Z Axis: 48.6 in.

Each pallet can hold up to 7,716 pounds of raw material which will allow us to machine parts for our larger major mechanical assemblies.  The KIWA Methods-KMH-1000B is also equipped with an automatic pallet changer with two pallets.  This is a major milestone for our customers since we can now machine a part while setting up the other pallet for the next part in a batch.
